A Rustic Romance: A Different Kind of Wedding at The Lion Inn, Boreham, Essex

Introduction: There’s something inherently magical about small, intimate weddings. Recently, I had the pleasure of creating gorgeous floral arrangements for a beautiful and relaxed ceremony held at The Lion Inn in Boreham, Essex. The couple, already blessed with children, chose to exchange their vows in the intimate setting of “The Den” surrounded by their closest relatives and friends. Despite the ceremony’s size, the venue was transformed into a romantic haven through carefully curated wedding flowers.

Setting the Scene: To set the tone for the ceremony, we adorned the aisle chairs with swathes of elegant ivory fabric. Bunches of lush olive foliage were strategically placed, creating a seamless blend of nature and romance.

Ceremony Table Perfection: The focal point of any wedding ceremony is undoubtedly the table where the couple says their vows. For this intimate celebration, we adorned the ceremony table with clusters of flower-filled jars. Each jar was a monochromatic mass of texture, featuring an assortment of blooms that echoed the couple’s style and personality.

Olive Foliage Accents: In addition to the soft florals, the use of olive foliage added a touch of rustic charm to the overall aesthetic. The silver green leaves complemented the ivory fabric draped over the chairs, adding depth and character to the space. The symbolism of olive branches – peace and unity – resonates perfectly with the commitment to building a life together.

Creating an Intimate Atmosphere: Despite the small guest list, the floral arrangements played a crucial role in creating an atmosphere that was both intimate and romantic. The Den at The Lion Inn was transformed into a cosy haven, with the carefully curated flowers enhancing the love that filled the air.

In addition to the beautiful ceremony décor, the bride and her bridesmaids carried effortlessly chic hand-tied bouquets. Comprising white lissianthus, ivory dahlia, gypsophila, and matracia, these floral arrangements represented a timeless and relaxed elegance. The bouquets were tied together with rustic twine, giving them a charming “just picked” feel that perfectly matched the intimate setting. The groom and male members of the wedding party sported buttonholes featuring white lissianthus, delicate gypsophila, and olive foliage, all expertly bound with twine to harmonise with the bridal bouquet. These thoughtful details showcased a unified and visually stunning wedding party.

After the heartfelt ceremony, the celebration continued with a lively and upbeat reception, attended by a larger group of guests. Opting for a more casual approach, the couple chose a buffet over a formal meal, encouraging a convivial and relaxed atmosphere. Each table featured a dark wood “Lazy Susan” plate at its centre, adorned with an assortment of jars filled with fresh flowers. The eclectic mix included lissianthus, matracia, gypsophila, dahlia, avalanche roses, and spray roses – all in soft whites and ivories. This choice not only added a touch of rustic charm but also embraced the timeless white and green colour palette, which sits perfectly with the décor at The Lion Inn.

The wedding reception became a lively celebration of love and togetherness, . The simplicity and elegance of the chosen flowers seamlessly mirrored the couple’s journey, from the tender ceremony in the Den to the exuberant revelry that filled the reception hall. It was a day filled with love, laughter, and the enduring beauty of carefully crafted floral details.

Conclusion: In the heart of Essex, surrounded by the love of family and friends, this wedding at The Lion Inn was a testament to the beauty of simplicity. Through the artistry of flowers, olive foliage, and elegant details, the couple’s intimate ceremony became a cherished memory for all in attendance. It goes to show that even the smallest weddings can be the most enchanting, with the right touch of floral magic – with the floral arrangements serving as a visual thread connecting the intimate ceremony to the joyous festivities that followed.
